Instead of a traditional health bar, Joshua has a gauge that measures his body temperature, similar to Disaster Report's thirst gauge. If there's one thing that Raw Danger does well, it's the way it conveys the constant and varied danger of nature gone wild, from flash floods that collapse ceilings to the hypothermia that threatens the survivors. Multiple dialogue choices in conversation make it feel as if you have more control over the plot, but you'll soon realize that most of them lead to the same outcome, which isn't really any more satisfying than watching a non-interactive cutscene. As you progress through the story, five additional playable characters are unlocked, each of whom has their own interconnecting story. He's a lowly waiter named Joshua Harwell, whose sole task is to escape Geo City in one piece with Stephanie McMurrough, a rich-girl waitress looking to establish some "independency" from her family by living like common people and doing whatever common people do. So it comes as no surprise whatsoever when the Geo City convention center starts to flood during a fete for the mayor, and things just get worse from there.ĭespite the fact that its name makes it sound like a lost Jean-Claude Van Damme's masterpiece, the initially-playable star of Raw Danger is neither a martial arts expert nor a timecop. But of course, as the builders of the Titanic can attest, there's no better way to invite destruction than to tempt fate with a little hubris. In 2010, the futuristic Geo City is touted as the world's safest, most disaster-proof city. (Despite the different titles, Raw Danger is indeed the sequel.) While most survival games are of the horror variety, forcing you to flee for your life from zombies, dogs and occasionally zombie dogs, Raw Danger pits you against the environment itself. Raw Danger is the second attempt by publisher Agetec and developer Irem to get a "disaster survival" genre of games off the ground, but it's probably not going to be any more successful than 2003's initial try, Disaster Report.

Arriving on store shelves to little or no fanfare, it relies upon positive word of mouth from early adopters to generate buzz. Once every few years, a truly innovative game comes out of nowhere and turns the industry on its collective ear.
